outhouse

Outhouse  2013                                                   Painting by B. Holmes
This is a painting I started years ago and finally finished... I like to add color to even the most mundane. Thankfully we have plumbing, many around here don't. But if I did have an outhouse I think I'd give it a similar paint job, and it's got to have a moon.

Candy Tongue

Jax is doing great after his last procedure. Looking forward to seeing family soon. Spring is finally showing up here, or trying to. The mosquitoes will be showing up too, unfortunately. They are quite a menace...

BOOTS

It's just about "mud season" here, which means just like it sounds, there's going to be a lot of mud...

Disgusting...

http://shine.yahoo.com/parenting/afghan-girl--6--rescued-from-child-bride-fate--many-others-not-so-lucky-181725317.html

Disclaimer: the video at the bottom of this story linked is disturbing... it left me wordless (which doesn't happen often), disgusted and feeling helpless in the fight for these little girls. how do you break a disgusting "hundreds of years old" tradition?! if you have not yet guessed i'm speaking of child brides, it's basically legal slavery and makes me quite sad. the video at the end of the article is a mini-documentary about 10 minutes long. i don't usually bring the ugly parts of our world to this little web space of mine, I much prefer happiness, humor, color, nature and most of all Loved & Happy Children that are allowed to be children... if you can find a way to help these innocent souls please do and pass it on (to me as well), Thank You.

for my girls...

I made these for some very special friends of mine in Oregon and got them in the mail last week...

Projects

Ok, I wanted to do some shots of the process and I did get a few photos of it but now I don't really have time to sort though, organize and post all of those so here's the finished product instead. These banners will be up in my booth this summer, yes I'm back in the local Open Air Artisans Market again this year. Yeah! It's an awesome little market full of talented artists' crafts, art, photography, jewelry and much more (as well as my hand batiked clothing for the whole family). Also Andy is making some really nice cutting boards out of Oldgrowth Alaskan Birch. They are awesome and were also accepted into the market, (more on that later and I'll post some pics. of them too). Well back to work batiking clothing since that's what I really need to get done but these banners were fun and have some of my newer designs on them. I tried to create a theme in both. Hope to see you at the market this year in downtown Talkeetna! Mid- May thru Mid- Sept. in front of the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar downtown Talkeetna Alaska, Sat. Sun. Mon. 10-6.
