The story of raising two little men like wolves in the wilds of Alaska. From our house in the woods with a garden, a berry patch, 2 dogs and a cat. Life as a mom and artist is never dull here in Talkeetna. Stay tuned to hear more about our adventures and wildlife stories as they unfold....

more crayons...
My take on eco-art, handmade recycled crayons! I just made more for my last Holiday Bazaar of the season this Sat. at the Talkeetna Grade school downtown it's Dec. 4th from 11-5. Sponsored by the PTA this is a fun local bazaar and is held on the same day as the Wilderness Woman Contest and Bachelor Ball & Auction a 30 year tradition in this funky little village. People have come from all parts of the world in past years for this event and the Bachelor Society spreads the love with the money they raise by donating to local non-profits as well as Domestic Abuse & Violence Support in Alaska.

my plain jane dolls
Yes something new... These are my "plain jane dolls" and as you can see the hair totally made them and gave each a personality. I love the yarn hair and no face. It may stem from my days working at a Waldorf school in Oregon during college. I made some dolls with the kids then that I still have. I also made a funny little "army brat" doll out of camo fabric with cute rainbow pig tails recently for a little girl's b-day. I wasn't sure about these ones until I have them the hair, now I really like them. We will see what the reaction is at the Christmas events I'm doing this month. The 4 I have here will be for sale then and if they sell I may get more.
I'll be in Anchorage for the Arts & Crafts Emporium NOV. 20-21st @ the Dena'ina Civic & Convention Center on 7th Ave. downtown, there will be almost 200 vendors with handmade stuff for sale. I will also be at our local PTA Craft Fair on DEC. 4th in Talkeetna at the Grade School, downtown 11-5. That is also the day of our towns annual Bachelor Ball & Auction and Wilderness Woman Contest. Lots of fun to be had in Downtown Talkeetna on that day...

Winter is near...
There's a chill in the air. It's fall here at our house but not for long, soon it will be Winter and all will be white... This week brought an earthquake of 5.4, high winds that knocked ours and thousands of other Alaskans power out for the last 3 days as well as that tall dark green spruce tree in the middle of our yard that came down in the wind storm. It's calm now but getting into the 20's at night and "they" are calling for possible snow this week in our area, Anchorage had flurries over the weekend already. All part of living in Alaska, be ready for anything...

My First Irish Wake
http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/adn/obituary.aspx?page=lifestory&pid=143763333
Tonight I went to my first Irish Wake. It was for a fun, sweet & talented man, Michael Kelly. We called him Mad Dog as many did.
A very special Talkeetna soul, he will always be here. I wrote a poem for him at 3am a few nights after he passed away and posted it on the Post Office's community board the next day...
A POEM FOR MICHAEL KELLY
Forever smiling and always kind, Mad Dog Kelly was a friend of mine.
He kept out town historically inclined and made sure the Moose Drop Fest went just fine.
"Growing Old Sucks" was his favorite line, yet young at heart is how he'd shine.
We'll all miss that friend of mine. He's forever playing music in the warm sunshine...

Puppy Update
All five pups are doing great, Luna is a really good mom. She won't leave them and when they all whine so does she ( I can understand that :0) There are 3 girls and 2 boys in the litter and it looks like several will be staying local so it will be cool to see them grow up as Talkeetna dogs. The boys have been really respectful of them and so far we have mostly left the pups alone, there will be plenty of time to play with them in the next couple months. She's right off the kitchen in the laundry room so we can keep a good eye on them and of course Luna is loving all the attention. Here are a few photos I took today, CUTE!

getting off the school bus footage
This was a request by my Aunt, some footage of Jax getting off the bus. The driver probably thought I was crazy...
Not much to say, he's tired.
Here comes the bus...
