The story of raising two little men like wolves in the wilds of Alaska. From our house in the woods with a garden, a berry patch, 2 dogs and a cat. Life as a mom and artist is never dull here in Talkeetna. Stay tuned to hear more about our adventures and wildlife stories as they unfold....

Like a new house...
We are loving spreading out into the whole house having rooms and a living room again. It looks great, Andy did an awsome job on the carpet and walls. I did lots of painting and cleaning up (then moving stuff). Having the stairs done and useable is so cool. The boys had a Lincoln Log city built on them yesterday when I got home from a "town trip". I'm still reorganizing but it's coming together!

Carpet
Yes! We are so close now to having bedrooms. As you can see the boys couldn't wait to play on the new carpet. This is the master bedroom ie: Mom & Dad's Room. It's not done yet but that can't stop them. It sounds like a couple elephants up there playing tag right now as I write this... The days are longer & the sun has been out. Today we went to the start of the Oosik ski race downtown at the river, there were alot of skiers. The boys had fun playing in the snow with friends. Enjoy the extra big full moon tonight!

Ice Fishing
Here are photos from a little ice fishing on the lake with Daddy yesterday. This little lake is only a few miles from our house. In the winter we ski, fish and play on it. In the summer we hike around it, sit on the little beach while the kids play in the water or take a small boat out on it and you guessed it, fish. Andy will fish anytime, obviously... Also the mountain was out and has been all week, and we never get tired of this view. I think it's almost spring, even here!

The Real Iditarod Start
March is Iditarod month here in Alaska. We go to the Re-start in Willow on the free shuttle bus each year. It's about 40 minutes South of Talkeetna out on Willow lake. Here we are with some friends on the bus. The musher in the photo is 4 time (in a row, going for a record 5th win) Lance Mackey. He comes from a mushing family and is a cancer survivor. We like him, he seems like the kind of guy you could sit and enjoy a beer with, just a laid back Alaskan. I love the shot of Jax and friend Shelby walking together arm & arm. Hawken fell asleep on my shoulders watching the dog mushing action and was pulled back to the shuttle in the sled that I'm glad I brought... The teams are now on their way to Nome on the North coast of our great state. It's a long, cold, crazy trail they are following out there. We have a couple Talkeetna locals in the race as well as my old boss from Steamboat Springs who is a rookie this year. He owns the dog sled tour company I was working for when I found out I was pregnant with Jaxon. It was a fun job, for a season, and I realized pretty quick I didn't want to be a musher. My kicksled with one dog is plenty for me... To follow the race check them out on the web at http://www.iditarod.com/
