A Ski At Fish Lake
A ski around Fish Lake with Friends after X-mas. Yep that is Hawken on skis now too. This was his first time really using them and he did great. My friend let him hold on to her chariot and after that he did it on his own for quite some time. Jaxon is a great skier he's been on them for 3 or 4 years now. We made it all the way around the lake, that's over 3 miles with 4 little boys. A success for these 2 moms! I'm back online after a month without a computer. I have lots of pictures to share so check back soon. Happy New Year to you all, 2013 will bring big things and much change I can feel it...

Cold Sun...
I say "cold sun" because when you look out the window the sun is out, the sky is blue and it's a beautiful day. When you go out (because the kids are stir crazy from all the cold below 0 temps. and not much outside time this weekend) it's 12 degrees with a wind chill of -10 below. But we had fun anyway, for about 20 minutes, cruising down our road. There are a few Icelandic ponies a block away so we went that direction. Jax starts ski club tomorrow and I wanted him to get out on his skis for a bit. I went for a nice x-country ski the other day on one of our local lake trails, the snow was deep but it was "gorgeously cold" out; sun, blue skies ,crisp air and no one in sight. Perfect. Then at the car my ski binding broke, so I'm going to need to shop around for one in town. Until then I will watch Jax ski...

Boys on the trail, growing up wild...
I often wonder what my boys will think of growing up in Alaska. They will no doubt see things most people only dream about and do things many people make into a "once in a lifetime" experience. Like moose hunting and King Salmon fishing or watching the Iditarod and Northern Lights, things that they will do every year here . They will also see the influx of climbers that venture here to take on Denali and maybe even want to do it themselves someday... Who knows what they will find on the mountains, trails and rivers of Alaska the adventures they will have. I can only hope they will be prepared and use their heads. I have a feeling they will enjoy the abundant wildlife and nature out their own backdoor and realize how lucky we are to have it.
Today we went for a walk at Fish Lake, the sun was out and the fresh snow was fluffy. I decided to neglect the dishes and laundry for some quality time with my boys, what's more important a clean sink or enjoying the sun and snow with my two little boys who will all too soon be men? No question and I think it's worth it...
